Rolling stops are not a stop!  As traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility, please remember to stop for the STOP signs.

CITY OFFERING CREDIT CARD PAYMENT OPTION

Beginning in mid-December, the City of Burlington will be accepting credit card payments for its residents to pay their tax bills, water bills and municipal tickets. The convenience fee of three percent (3%) will be charged to users for each transaction by the credit card company, not the City. The ability to pay for other items such as building permits and bar tender - operator's - licenses are being looked into and will become available in the future. This new payment system should allow for our customers to have more flexibility when paying City bills.

NEW DOORS AT LIBRARY

A Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held at the library on November 14th to celebrate the newly installed doors. Paid for by a generous donation from the Friend's of the Library and a federal grant. These doors will help visitors get through them when their hands are full as well as provide additional insulation for the library.

LEAF & BRUSH COLLECTION CONTINUES

Due to the unusually nice weather and the late dropping of many of the leaves this season, our Public Works Department will be continuing to collect as many leaves as they can prior to any accumulating snow fall. Please make sure that all leaves are raked into the gutter, preferably 6-8 inches away from the curb so that stormwater can flow unobstructed. And as always you can bring your leaves and brush to the compost area on Maryland Avenue (there are designated bins for them). Reminder, that if you do use the compost area to use biodegradable bags to transport your waste. These bags are inexpensive and available at many local stores. Plastic bags do not decompose and for that reason are not allowed.

DIRECT PAYMENT OPTION FOR WATER AND SEWER BILLS

Avoid late payment fees for your water and sewer bills, use the Direct Payment option

The City now offers it's utility customers a direct payment option for sanitary sewer and water bills, similar to programs offered by the electric, gas and telephone companies in Wisconsin. Many residents find direct payment a great convenience. Residents who opt for this direct payment still continue to receive a quarterly utility bill from the City with the words "Direct Pay - Do Not Pay". For more information on this customer service visit the link above or contact the Water Utility at 262-342-1173.

CITY OF BURLINGTON WINTER PARKING

The City of Burlington Police Department would like to remind all citizens of winter parking restrictions. The year round ordinance states no vehicle may be parked on any city street from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m.

Citizens may call the police department and request special permission to park during these hours. This is normally reserved for out of town guests where adequate parking is not available. Parking without prior approval from the police department will result in a ticket.

With a 3-inch snowfall this privilege may be withdrawn to allow snowplows to clear the roads. Citizens will be advised when they call that no overnight parking is permitted due to snow removal.

Downtown Resident Permits (DTR) allow residents who live in an area with restricted parking availability, the privilege to park in municipal lots. The permits cost $10.00 dollars a month, the vehicle must be registered to the residence and a vehicle cannot be parked in the same stall for more than 24 hours. Snow removal in these municipal lots has always been a challenge. We are asking all permit holders to follow guidelines to allow city snow removal equipment to clear lots in a timely manner.

If you have any questions regarding parking or snow removal operations please contact Lieutenant Scot Eisenhauer at The City of Burlington Police Department Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 342-1103.

SNOW PLOWING

City of Burlington employees make every effort possible to safely remove snow from all streets in a timely manner as soon as possible after a snowfall. State highways are the first streets to be plowed, followed by the main (arterial) streets, side streets, and then parking lots and alleys.

Because of the many variables such as traffic conditions, amount of snowfall and how heavy (or light) the snow is, we cannot predict with certainty how long it will take to clear our streets following a storm event. Please drive safely and don't follow snow plows too closely. Any concerns or questions regarding snow plowing can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 763-2060.
