A Resolution to Write Off Aged Delinquent Personal Property Tax Debts

WHEREAS the Common Council is responsible for the management and control of the the City’s finances pursuant to Wis. Stat. s. 62.11(5) and must examine and adjust the accounts of the City after audit pursuant to Wis. Stat. s. 62.12(3); and

WHEREAS the City’s audit has revealed that carrying delinquent personal property taxes that are unlikely to be collected and may not be charged back to any other entity on the records of the City creates an inaccurate view of amounts receivable by the City; and

WHEREAS the City wishes to remove said delinquent personal property taxes for the tax years 2004 and prior in order to accurately reflect the amounts that the City is likely to collect, and such removal will serve to benefit the public and will contribute to the welfare of the citizens of the City of Burlington by providing a more accurate accounting of the City’s finances:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Burlington that delinquent personal property taxes for the tax years 2004 and prior shall be and are removed from the receivable accounts of the City. If any such amounts are subsequently collected, they shall be restored to the appropriate accounts.
