AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE AGREEMENT PROVIDING FOR THE SALARIES OF
ELECTED OFFICIALS AND WORKING CONDITIONS OF APPOINTED OFFICIALS
AND NON-REPRESENTED EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF BURLINGTON

WHEREAS, the City of Burlington City Council recognizes that due to an emergency either weather related or building related that it may be necessary during normal working hours to close municipal buildings and send employees home; and,

WHEREAS, the closing of municipal buildings would result in a loss of pay for those employees normally scheduled to work that day; and,

WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Common Council that the employees who would be affected by the loss of hours be compensated when those losses are less than eight hours; and,

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1816(20) An Ordinance Providing for the Salaries of Elected Officials, and Working Conditions of Appointed Officials and Non-Represented Employees of the City of Burlington was introduced on November 9, 2006 and adopted November 21, 2006.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Section Three, Article 7 Sick Leave and Funeral Leave of Ordinance No.1816 (20) be amended to include Emergency/Snow Day Policies;

  • If City operations are closed because of an emergency such as excessive snow or other weather-related reasons or lack of adequate heat or other building-related reasons, the following conditions shall apply:
  • If municipal operations are closed for one day only, all employees normally scheduled to work those hours and are sent home, shall be paid.

  • If municipal operations are closed for two or more consecutive days due to an emergency or natural disaster, the City Council shall determine whether or not employees shall be paid.
