The City of Burlington has contracted with Veolia Environmental Services in Muskego, WI for solid waste collection and recycling services All materials to be collected must be placed by the curb on the morning of your scheduled pickup day.

Advance Arrangements

Certain items require special advance arrangements or instructions for disposal. Please call 262-679-0860 to dispose of:

  • Appliances

  • Asbestos materials
  • Construction/demolition waste
  • Hazardous waste
  • Medical waste
  • Paints and thinners
  • Tires without rims

Trash and Refuse Pickup

All trash, refuse and garbage must be bagged in large plastic garbage bags or placed in totes next to the curb.

Recycling Program

The following information provided to us from Veolia Environmental Services should be helpful in determining what is recyclable and what is trash.

By contract Veolia is required to collect at the curb the following recyclables:
  • Aluminum, tin, bi-metal and steel cans

  • Corrugated cardboard

  • Clear, brown and green glass containers

  • Newspaper

  • Plastic (HDPE and PETE)

  • Magazines

  • Advertising circulars

  • Office paper

  • Catalogs

  • Phone books

  • Junk mail

  • Envelopes and windowed envelopes

  • File folders

  • Cereal boxes

  • Soda boxes (can cartons)

  • Appliances (all white goods)

  • Tires

  • Lead acid (car and truck) batteries with unclaimed casings

 

 

These items are not recyclable - please include them with your regular trash:
  • Aluminum siding and scrap

  • Auto parts

  • Automotive product containers

  • Ceramics of all types

  • Drinking glasses

  • Eye glasses

  • Hangers

  • Lids from bottles and jars

  • Mirrors

  • Light bulbs

  • Motor oil bottles (due to oil residue)

  • Paint cans

  • Pizza boxes

  • Plastic bags

  • Plastics coded 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

  • Plastic cat litter bottles

  • Plastic flower pots/planters

  • Plate glass

  • Pots and pans

  • Pyrex dishes

  • Scrap metal

  • Styrofoam packaging materials

  • Styrofoam egg cartons

In addition, foam polystyrene packaging and plastic containers (#3 to #7) will be collected when mandated by the State of Wisconsin. Several white goods such as major appliances; refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters will be collected curbside each week on Thursdays. Also keep in mind that Veolia's tire collection policy is one (1) car tire, less rim per week collected curbside at NO CHARGE.

Blue Bin Replacement

If you have lost or must replace your blue recycling bin, please call the City Clerk at 262-763-3717. There is a $8.00 charge for bin replacement.

Yard Waste and Motor Oil

The City of Burlington maintains a disposal site for residents for yard waste and motor oil on Maryland Avenue near the Hintz Sports Complex. Please call Public Works at 262-763-2060 for information or click here [link to DPW services].
