The City
of Burlington requires a right-of-way permit for any
work within the public right-of-way, which is
typically the area between, and including, the
sidewalks on each side of the street.
This permit is typically required for items such
as:
-
Sidewalk and driveway replacement.
-
Sanitary or water
service repairs in the right-of-way.
-
Public utility
installation, i.e., electric, gas, telephone, cable TV
-
Cases where construction equipment or
dumpsters need temporary use of the right-of-way.
There is an administrative reimbursement fee for
work done in the public right-of-way. The fee is $150.00 for
excavation under pavement, or 12" below grade; or $25.00 for
"surface work", not under street pavement. Contact the Dept. of
Public Works at (262) 763-2060 for information about procedures,
permits and required submittals to perform work within the
right-of-way.
