City residents may dispose of most common household wastes, such as aerosol cans, floor products, cleansers, disinfectants, old gasoline, automotive fluids, oil based paint and varnishes, fertilizers, herbicides, pool chemicals, and batteries. Look on the labels for words such as caution, toxic, corrosive, pesticide, combustible, poison, flammable, warning, danger or reactive.

The City will not accept Latex paint, explosives, biologicals, radioactive, medical waste, propane cylinders, ammunition, and commercial wastes.

Caution is urged for anyone transporting items to the site. Keep products in their original containers when possible. Be sure containers are not leaking, or place in leak proof containers. DO NOT MIX PRODUCTS. Transport in sturdy containers (no plastic bags), and store in trunk, away from children, pets, sparks and flames.

The disposal service will be on a first come, first served basis, and will remain open until estimated disposal costs match the budgeted dollars.

Also available to businesses within the City of Burlington, is a chance for them to properly dispose of chemicals, at the City's contracted price of disposal. By bringing the chemicals to the City site, businesses can save in the labor and hauling expense of using commercial waste services. These businesses must pre-register with Veolia to take part in the Clean Sweep drop off. To register, or to get a free disposal price quote, contact Veolia at 1-800-255-5092, Ext. 45.

The event will be held at the City of Burlington DPW Garage, 824 Milwaukee Avenue, on Saturday, April 19th from 8:00 A.M. until Noon. The event is open to City of Burlington residents only. A $5.00, per vehicle fee will be collected on site.

The Western Racine County Health Department will be hosting a prescription medication drop off on the same day from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. They are located at 156 East State Street at the intersection of South Pine Street, in Burlington. They may be contacted at 262-763-4930.
