BUILDING INSPECTION

The Building Inspection Department is charged with the task of inspecting all plans and construction within the City of Burlington to assure that all structures are constructed safely and in compliance with the City Codes and Ordinances. The department also handles complaints from citizens and other departments regarding code violations ranging from environmental complaints, junk vehicles, zoning violations, solicitation and encroachments within the City.

The State of Wisconsin and City of Burlington have established statutes and ordinances for the protection of the health and safety of the occupants of buildings. Building Inspection services include:

• Review and approval of construction plans

• Issuance of building, electrical, plumbing and other permits
• Site inspections
• Licensing of contractors
• Variance applications and other zoning matters

The following is a list of common construction projects that require a building permit. However, this list is not all-inclusive. If you have a project planned and don't see it here, call for information before starting your work. Obtaining the appropriate permit(s) is the property owner's responsibility. The Building Inspection office is located in City Hall.
