The Historic Preservation Commission was established to safeguard the City's historic and cultural heritage, including stabilization and improvement of property values, promotion of civic pride in the beauty and noble accomplishments of the past, protection, enhancement of the City for its residents, businesses and visitors, and to strengthen the City's economy. The Commission has the authority to recommend the designation of historic structures, historic sites and HPO Historic Preservation Overlay Districts within the City to the Plan Commission, based upon criteria established in the zoning ordinance. The Commission also oversees demolition, alteration and improvements to historic properties.
