POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION

MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 1, 2004 MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Thomas Pringle. Commissioners present were Patricia Spiegelhoff, James Stobber, Norris (Jack) Berry and David Kaiser. Also present were Police Chief David Walsh and Fire Chief Richard Lodle.

Motion to approve the minutes of the October 6, 2004 meeting by Commissioner Spiegelhoff, seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried unanimously.

Fire Chief Lodle's Report: The Chief reported on the City's purchase of the new Quint fire truck with anticipated delivery in June of 2005.

Motion to closed session pursuant to Section 19.85(1)(c), Stats., at 6:35 p.m. by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Berry, to consider applicant for firefighter and to consider promotion of two probationary firefighters to permanent member status. Motion carried unanimously. Motion out of closed session at 6:58 p.m. by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Spiegelhoff. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion to add applicant Robert Latham to the membership eligibility list by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion to appoint Bernard (Joe) Milroy to permanent member status on the City Fire Department by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Berry. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion to appoint Eric Kurth to permanent member status by Commissioner Spiegelhoff, seconded by Commissioner Stobber. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Berry to reappoint as general officers of the City of Burlington Fire Department for year 2005:

Deputy Fire Chief – Richard Peterson
Assistant Fire Chief – Michael Wallace
Assistant Fire Chief – Daniel Rueter
Safety Officer – Todd Campbell

Motion carried unanimously.

Police Chief Walsh's Report: Motion at 7:05 p.m., pursuant to Section 19.85(1)(c), Stats., to consider promotion and performance evaluation of police officers by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Spiegelhoff. Motion carried unanimously. Motion out of closed session at 7:13 p.m. by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried unanimously.

Police and Fire Commissioner Business: The Commission agreed to reschedule the next meeting to Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. to interview the police sergeant candidates.

Motion to adjourn at 7:15 p.m. by President Pringle, seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried unanimously.
