The meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m. by President Thomas Pringle. Commissioners present were Patricia Spiegelhoff, James Stobber, Norris (Jack) Berry and David Kaiser. Also present were Police Chief David Walsh and Fire Chief Richard Lodle.

Motion to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2004 meeting by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Stobber. Motion carried unanimously. Motion to approve the minutes of the April 29, 2004 special meeting by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Berry. Motion carried unanimously.

Report from Fire Chief: Motion at 6:35 p.m. to move into closed session, pursuant to Section 19.85(1)(c), Stats, to consider application for membership as a firefighter and appointment of probationary firefighter to permanent status, by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Spiegelhoff. Motion carried unanimously. Motion out of closed session at 6:43 p.m. by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Spiegelhoff. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion to grant firefighter Nathan Ohlfs permanent membership status in the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by Commissioner Spiegelhoff. Motion carried unanimously.

The application for the firefighter candidate was received but no action taken.

Report from Police Chief: Motion into closed session, pursuant to authority of Section 19.85(1)(c), by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Berry at 6:47 p.m., to consider performance evaluation of probationary officer. Motion at 6:49 p.m. to move out of closed session by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Berry. Motion carried unanimously.

The Chief reported on officer John Fischer's recovery from dog bite injuries and his return to duty.

Police and Fire Commission Business -Election of Officers: Motion by Commissioner Stobber to nominate as President, Thomas Pringle. Motion by Commissioner Berry to close the nominations and direct the Secretary to cast a unanimous ballot for Thomas Pringle as President, seconded by Commissioner Stobber. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Commissioner Stobber to nominate as Secretary, David Kaiser. Motion by Commissioner Berry that the nominations be closed and that the Secretary be directed to cast a unanimous ballot for the candidate as Secretary, seconded by Commissioner Stobber. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion to adjourn at 6:56 p.m. by President Pringle, seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried unanimously.
