POLICE
AND FIRE COMMISSION
MINUTES FROM
JANUARY 7, 2004 MEETING
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by
President Thomas Pringle. Commissioners present were
Patricia Spiegelhoff, James Stobber, Norris (Jack) Berry
and David Kaiser. Also present were Police Chief David
Walsh and Fire Chief Richard Lodle.
Motion to approve the minutes of the November 5, 2003
meeting by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner
Berry. Motion carried unanimously.
Report from Fire Chief:
The Chief reported on the election of officers for
the City of Burlington Volunteer Fire Department:
Elected from Hose Company
No.1 are Captain, Tim Nelson; Lieutenant, Kevin Morrow;
Secretary, David Hall; and Treasurer, Joe Milroy.
Hose Company No.2 officers
are Captain, Ken Daniels; Lieutenant, Tim Gorman;
Secretary, Jason Martin; and Treasurer, Chris Miller.
Hook and Ladder Company
officers include Captain, David Kerkhoff; Lieutenant,
Mark Strasser; Secretary, Josh Spencer; and Treasurer,
William Miltaz.
Re-elected at the
department's annual meeting were General Secretary,
Craig Hancock; and General Treasurer, Richard Zwiebel.
The Chief also reported that the City of Burlington
Fire Department currently has 48 volunteer members.
Motion by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by
Commissioner Stobber for confirmation by the Police and
Fire Commission of the Chief's requested reappointment
for general officers to the City of Burlington Fire
Department for 2004:
Deputy Fire Chief - Richard Peterson
Assistant Fire Chief - Michael Wallace
Assistant Fire Chief - Daniel Rueter
Safety Officer - Todd Campbell
Report from Police Chief:
The Chief reported that Patrol Officer Kathryn Parker
had resigned from the Department to join the Beloit
Police Department.
Police and Fire Commission Business:
Motion by Commissioner Stobber, seconded by
Commissioner Spiegelhoffto revise Section 3 of the
Police and Fire Commission manual consistent with the
revisions presented to the Commission. In favor of the
motion, Commissioners Spiegelhoff, Berry, Kaiser,
Stobber and Pringle. Therefore, the motion carries
unanimously.
Motion by Commissioner Berry, seconded by
Commissioner Spiegelhoff that Chief Walsh be designated
as the Police and Fire Commission's designated agent to
receive all applications for the position of
probationary patrol officer.
Motion to adjourn at 6:48 p.m. by President Pringle,
seconded by Commissioner Kaiser. Motion carried
unanimously.
