CITY OF BURLINGTON – PARK BOARD

165 West Washington Street

Burlington, Wisconsin 53105

November 17, 2005 at 6:30 p.m.

Meeting called to order at 6:35pm. Present: Bill Milatz, Charles Neff, Larry Gobel, Teresa Trawitzke, Darrel Eisenhardt. Excused: Kevin Bird, Ken Kline, Peter Hintz.

Minutes from the October meeting were approved as presented. No bills for the month were available for review.

Guests/Public Comment:

  • Scott Behnke, president of Little League, informed the board that the Little League is planning on 6-8 teams for the 13-14 year old league. They want to use the Junior/Senior diamond at the Hintz complex and the baseball diamond at Bushnell park. They may want to make Bushnell their permanent home field, but this would require changes to some of the field's dimensions. This might conflict with plans for the diamond to be used by the high school (freshman) which require a full size diamond.

Any changes to the diamond would have to be formally approved by the park board. This matter may be brought to the board at a later date. The Little League also wants to put a playground area at the Hintz Complex. They need to work with Larry Gobel on possible locations and for names of vendors we have used in the past. This equipment would be paid for by the Little League.

  • Dick Imrie of Baseball 2000 informed the board that the irrigation system has been installed at Beaumont Field. It was installed by Breezy Hill, has been tested, and has been prepared for winter.

Work continues on making improvements to the concession stand building. The restrooms need to be secured for winter. The batting cages are to be removed within a few days.

Supervisors Report:

  • Larry Gobel will discuss the possibility of irrigation at Bushnell park with Breezy Hill Nursery, he then will contact the county park representatives with any findings.
  • The skate board park will be closed after Thanksgiving.
  • Majority of the leaves in the parks have already been picked up.
  • There has been some vandalism at the Wemhoff-Jucker and Riverside park restrooms. Larry is looking into the possibility of using some surveillance equipment.

Aldermanic Report:  None

Old Business:

  • McCanna park playground equipment is installed and will get new wood chips before spring. Larry is looking into making some landscape improvements at McCanna. The new restrooms and the playground will be dedicated next spring.
  • The Gophers at Bushnell park have been treated with bait this fall, and will likely need to be treated again in the spring.

New Business:

  • Will discuss the 2007 & 2008 parks budget at the January meeting due to three members absence this month.
  • Moved by Neff, seconded by Eisenhardt that the December 2005 meeting of the board be canceled, next meeting will be in January 2006.

Adjournment at 7:55pm.

Prepared by C. Neff
